The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most iconic and recognizable brands in all of sports.

Before Los Angeles, the Lakers hailed from Minnesota, where they won five of the first eight championships. Starting center George Mikan was considered the NBA’s first dominant superstar.

Throughout the 1960s, Jerry West, the NBA’s logo, and teammate Elgin Baylor, couldn’t get past the Boston Celtics until they enlisted the help of all-time-legend Wilt Chamberlain.

The Lakers were dormant throughout the mid and late-1970s until drafting Michigan State superstar Magic Johnson. The Hall-of-Fame trio of Magic, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy was responsible for the Lakers’ ascension to basketball royalty in the 1980s.

After their takeover in the ‘80s, the Lakers’ next dynasty came in the late-‘90s after signing Shaquille O’Neal and trading for Kobe Bryant. That duo led the Lakers to three straight titles from 2000-2002.

After Shaq and Kobe came Kobe and Pau Gasol, who brought two more championships to Tinseltown in 2009 and 2010. Kobe spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers, winning five championships and carving out a spot on the Lakers’ Mount Rushmore.

In the past few years, LeBron James and Anthony Davis cemented their places in Lakers lore by winning the 2020 NBA title, the franchise’s 17^th.

Here, the Lakers are the favorite and the Celtics are the underdog. A bettor who places a wager on the Lakers spread of -5.5 needs the Lakers to win the game by at least 6 points.

If the Lakers win by less than 6, or if they lose outright, the Celtics would cover the spread, and the bettor would lose.
