Betting on the Miami Heat
As the most successful NBA franchise in the state of Florida, the Miami Heat have a huge fan base across the Sunshine State. They also have a large betting base among US fans going back to the team’s glory days in the early 2010’s.
Miami Heat Team Overview
The Miami Heat will always be best known for the “Big Three” as the first collection of NBA elite players. The actual franchise dates back to the 1988/1989 season as a NBA expansion team.
The early years were rather lean with just two playoff berths in the team’s first seven seasons in the league. With marquee players such as Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway, Miami started qualifying for the postseason on a regular basis.
The Heat reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 1997, but continued to post early exits from the playoffs into the early 2000’s. The seeds for future success were first planted with the arrival of Dwyane Wade in 2003.
Everything came together in 2006 with the team’s first NBA Championship. However, this was a franchise that wanted to win a title every season. To make that happen, the Heat went out and signed LeBron James and Chris Bosh to form the original Big Three.
Behind four-straight trips to the NBA Finals, Miami added a pair of world titles to the resume. More recently behind a total team approach, the Heat made it all the way to the NBA Finals in 2020. They came up short against the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
Betting on the Miami Heat in Florida
For a very brief time early in the season, you could bet on a Miami game in Florida. The Seminole Tribe went live with a mobile sportsbook app as a result of a new tribal gaming compact with the state.
When you are in a state with legal betting and want to place a bet on the NBA, a spread bet on the Heat might look like this:
Heat -2.5 -105
Magic +2.5 -125
In this example, for a spread bet on the Heat to pay out, Miami would have to win the game by at least 2.5 points. Should the Magic win, but only by 2 points, your bet on the Heat to "cover the spread" would pay out in your favor.
Various challenges to the legality of that compact have put legal sports betting in Florida on hold until further notice. However, you can still bet on Miami games in states with legal retail and online sportsbooks in other states. Online sports betting in Florida remains illegal.
Miami Heat Partnership With Sportsbooks
Miami signed a partnership with Betway back in November of last year as the “Official Partner” of the team. This deal included signage at FTX Arena as the Heat’s home court.
Betway also became the preferred free-to-play gaming partner of the team in the absence of legal sports betting in Florida right now.
