Betting on the Brooklyn Nets
There is quite a bit of interest in betting on the Brooklyn Nets as an elite NBA team. This especially holds true with New York sports bettors as one of the most popular pro sports franchises in the Empire State.
The Nets were not always a popular NBA franchise. Yet, as the New York Nets in the old ABA, they won a pair of league titles in 1974 and 1976 led by basketball great Julius Erving.
The team spent just one season in the NBA as the New York Nets when the two leagues merged ahead of the 1976 season. The following season, they made their debut as the New Jersey Nets.
The Nets have never won a world title during their tenure in the NBA. They came close twice with trips to the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. Jason Kidd was the top player on those two teams.
Ahead of the 2012/2013 NBA season, the Nets moved to their current home in Brooklyn. During the past 10 seasons, they qualified for the playoffs in six of those campaigns. However, they never made it past the Eastern Conference semifinals.
A common wager typically placed on a basketball game is the spread. Lets take the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics for example:
The Brooklyn Nets opposes the Boston Celtics, and so the spread is as follows:
- Brooklyn: -2.5
- Boston: +2.5
The Nets are the favorite to win the game, and need to win by 3 points or more for a bettor to win their bet.
Likewise, if you bet on the Celtics, they have to win outright, or not lose by 3 points for you to win the point spread bet.
Betting In New York
Betting on the Nets in New York just got a lot easier with the launch of legal mobile sportsbook apps. Prior to the change in law, the only form of legal sports betting in the state was through limited retail sportsbooks located in upstate New York casinos.

Heading into 2022, the Nets did not have any official partnerships in place with a US sportsbook operator. However, there is an existing partnership with FanDuel as a fantasy sports partner.
That marketing deal could set the plate for an expansion into sports betting now that FanDuel’s mobile sports betting app has gone live in New York.
