Betting on the Air Force Falcons

Games involving the military academies typically garner a lot of interest from fans and bettors, so while the Air Force isn’t always a football powerhouse, it is certainly catching attention.

Air Force Falcons Overview

The Air Force Academy began playing Division I football in the 1950s. Obviously, this is not a “football school,” but the Falcons have almost always shown that they are more than capable of competing at the highest level.

The Academy has made two appearances in New Year’s Six bowls in its history, playing in the 1959 Cotton Bowl and the 1971 Sugar Bowl. The Falcons tied the TCU Horned Frogs in the Cotton Bowl, capping off an undefeated season in a unique way. In 1971, the team got smacked by Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl.

In 1985, under Fisher Deberry, the Air Force went 12-1 and climbed all the way to #4 in the AP Poll, the highest ranking in team history. A victory in the Bluebonnet Bowl put a bow on the most successful season the academy has ever had.

DeBerry and the Falcons recaptured that magic in the late-‘90s, going 12-1 and winning the Oahu Bowl. In the post-DeBerry era, the Air Force has remained a consistent and solid football program, but the big bowl games and AP rankings have been mostly missing.

Betting on Air Force in Colorado

Luckily for Colorado bettors and fans of the Air Force Falcons football program, both retail and online sports betting are legal in Colorado. In fact, the Centennial State boasts one of the nation’s most robust and efficient betting markets.

Legalization became a reality in late-2019, and the full launch of retail and online betting came in May 2020. The Colorado sports betting landscape looks how many bettors would want it to.

There is a huge selection of online sportsbooks, including the industry’s biggest names – FanDuel and BetMGM – and some lesser known operators like Betway.

Fans and bettors looking to get in on the action in Colorado can expect to see something like this at one of the available sportsbooks:

-          Air Force -5.5

-          Colorado State +5.5

Air Force has played more games against Colorado State than any other program. In this edition of the in-state rivalry, the Falcons are favored by 5.5 points.

If Air Force defeats Colorado State by at least 6 points, they cover the spread. If Air Force wins by fewer than 6, or loses the game, Colorado State covers the spread, and Air Force backers lose their wagers.
