Betting on the Utah Utes
Playing in the Pac-12, the Utah Utes have a strong fan base both in and out of Utah. Betting on the Utes in-state is not an option. However, this remains a popular football betting team in US markets with legal sports betting.
Utah Utes Team Overview
The football program at Utah University in Salt Lake City dates back to 1905. In that course of time, the Utes have been members of six different college football conferences. Utah played as an Independent its first four seasons before joining the Rocky Mountain Conference in 1910.
The next stop was the Mountain States Athletic Conference (MSAC) from 1938 until 1947. Utah moved to the Skyline Conference until 1961 before becoming a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) the following season.
The stint in the WAC was one of the longest in program history before moving to the Mountain West Conference in 1999. One of the biggest claims to fame during the team’s tenure in the MWC was head coach Urban Myer leading the Utes to a No. 4 national ranking in 2004.
Utah went a perfect 12-0 that season while beating the Pitt Panthers in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. Further success on the field led to an invitation to join the Pac-12 in 2011. Moving to a major conference for the first time in team history, Utah’s football program also moved to the national stage.
Kyle Whittingham took over as head coach in 2005. During his tenure, the Utes have qualified for a postseason bowl in 14 of his 17 seasons at the helm. The team’s highest season-ending ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 was No. 2 in 2008 with Utah going a perfect 13-0.
Whittingham lead Utah to its first Pac-12 Championship in 2021 to earn a trip to the 2022 Rose Bowl. The Utes came up short in a wild 48-45 loss to Ohio State.
As members of the Pac-12, betting on the Utes has grown in popularity in states with legal sportsbooks. If they would happen to be seven-point home favorites against rival Oregon on a college football point spread, they would have to beat the Ducks by eight or more points to win that bet.

Utah Utes fans cannot legally bet on their favorite football team in Utah. This is actually one of the few states in the country that does not even have a lottery.
