Betting on the Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines and Big Ten football have been a solid match for quite some time. Legally betting on Wolverines football games in the state of Michigan has only enhanced the team’s relationship with its legions of fans.

Michigan Wolverines Team Overview

The football program at Michigan University in Ann Arbor dates back to the late 1800’s. The first season was 1881. In 1896, Michigan joined the Western Conference as a precursor to the formation of the Big Ten.

In the 1901 season, Michigan played in the inaugural Rose Bowl as one of the preeminent college football programs in the nation. The game was referred to as the Tournament East-West Football Game.

It was not until the 1953 football season when the Wolverines made their debut as members of the Big Ten. When head coach Bo Schembechler took over the reins in 1969, Michigan grew into the national power it is today.

Going back over the team’s illustrious history, Michigan has won a total of nine college football national championships. The first was in 1901 and the most recent title was won in 1997. With Jim Harbaugh as head coach, the Wolverines qualified for the college football playoff in 2021 but lost to Georgia in the 2022 Orange Bowl.

Ranked No. 3 in the nation in the final 2021 Associated Press Top 25, that was Michigan’s highest ranking since the 1997 championship team.

Rivalries run deep in the Big Ten but none is bigger than the one with the Michigan State Spartans. These teams meet annually in the final game on the regular season schedule.

If you were to bet on Michigan as a seven-point home favorite against Michigan State, the Wolverines would have to beat their bitter rivals by eight or more points to win that wager.
