Three years later, the Phillies won the NL East at 90-72 and made a postseason run to the 1983 World Series. This time around, they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 series loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

With another World Series loss in 1993, the Phillies were able to win their second MLB world title in 2008. With Charlie Manuel as the team’s skipper, Philadelphia made short work of the Tampa Bay Rays in five games. The Phillies qualified for the World Series again in 2009 but lost to the Yankees four games to two.

Philadelphia’s biggest rivals in the NL East would be the New York Mets and Washington Nationals because of their close proximity. A cross-state rivalry also exists against the NL Central’s Pittsburgh Pirates.

If the Phillies go on to win that game at Citizens Bank Park, the $145 wager would pay $100.
